Immigration law can cause complications for employers in New Zealand. In some cases you might even find yourself on the wrong side of the law. This can happen even when you are trying to do the right thing and be helpful. One of the issues is that it is illegal for you to give immigration advice unless you are licensed by the immigration authorities.

This law is fairly broad so has the potential to catch you out even when the advice is minor. It is therefore important that employers consult immigration professionals and/or advise their employees to do the same, whenever issues arise.
