Joinery associate: qualifications and experience required in New Zealand

Stats NZ describes the requirement for NOL skill level 3 as:

NZQCF Level 4 qualification, or at least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification (NZQCF Level 4/NOL Skill Level 3).

A skill level describes the occupation, not you. Immigration New Zealand matches a job to the single closest occupation, and the skill level comes from that occupation; more experience does not move an occupation to a higher level.

What does a joinery associate do?

Note: This role is working toward a NZ Certificate in Joinery (Level 4) or a NZ Certificate in Kitchen Joinery (Level 4)

The Joinery Apprentice role involves learning and assisting tradespeople in manufacturing joinery fittings from plans and drawings and installing them into various locations. The apprentice needs to seek ways to improve systems, listen carefully to instructions, and observe and question colleagues' practices. Their duties include preparing materials, fabricating and assembling joinery items, coordinating with clients for job collections, and maintaining a tidy workspace. Competencies are measured by on-time project delivery, efficiency improvement, adherence to safety practices, and effective communication with management and colleagues.
